Manchaca is located within Travis County, Texas just 10 miles SW of Austin's city center. This small unincorporated community was named after Jose Antonio Manchaca, a military man and politician from the mid 1800's, and would soon grow into a small population of less than 100 residents. Although the city seemed to have a slow start, adding only a handful of new residents each decade, by the mid 1980's, the Manchca had spirit caught on. Today, this growing community was recorded by the 2000 census bureau to house over 2200 people and the number is on the rise.

Manchaca is protected by the Travis County Sheriffs, but does have its own fire department, post office, and primary education through the Manchaca Elementary School. Advanced grade level students attend nearby Paredes Middle School and Akins High School in Austin.
